Abbiamo raccolto testimonianze in giro per il mondo per capire come viene vissuta, nei vari Paesi, la situazione coronavirus. Hossein Shayei Moosavi è un 41enne endodontista iraniano che vive a New York e insegna inoltre in una scuola odontoiatrica. La città - racconta - non era pronta per questa pandemia, gli ospedali sono a corto di attrezzature, la gente è spaventata, e non solo per la propria salute, alcune aziende e piccole imprese hanno infatti già iniziato a licenziare. “Sono stato in paesi in via di sviluppo e del terzo mondo, in zone di guerra, ma non ho mai visto persone litigare per la carta igienica. Nelle ultime due settimane è quello che è successo a Manhattan”.

I am an endodontist in New York City. I teach at a dental school as well. My job is to get people out of pain like a emergency medical doctor but in dental field. 

The city of New York was not ready for this pandemic, people are scared and the information is not reliable. Government failed to recognize the severity of the situation and with misinforming the public made people more scared. The hospitals are low on equipment and barely have any N95 masks. 

The fact is as a doctor I am disappointed that we are not ready for this pandemic and my government did not think about us and as a human being I am ashamed when people are dying and we are still selfish and thinking about just ourselves

This is disaster in making, they didn’t learn from other countries like China, Italy or Iran. Now that the reality is more tangible, it is too late. People are worried about layoffs as well as paying bills. Some companies and small business have already started laying people off. I have been in developing and third world countries, war zones, but I never see people fighting over toilet paper. But in the past couple of weeks I was able to see it in Manhattan, “ the greatest city in the world”. The fact is as a doctor I am disappointed that we are not ready for this pandemic and my government did not think about us and as a human being I am ashamed when people are dying and we are still selfish and thinking about just ourselves.

I think this still is the tip of an iceberg and worse days for americans are in the horizon. 

My colleagues and I will still going to work to make sure we get people out of pain so they don’t need to go to emergency rooms. The only request I have is: please stay home. Be brave. Think about other people too. 

I wish we all can get ride of this pandemic.
